Diane Hagerty is a tax professional and business consultant who needed a new website in preparation for publishing a business how-to book. It needed to showcase her writing and make it easy to hire Diane as a speaker, as well as supporting her accounting services. A professional services website is usually the most important part of the marketing plan, so it needs to present the site owner well.
We created a stacked design on the WordPress platform so that Diane could manage the site herself.
We used Diane’s words, optimizing for search, and she provided photos as well. We designed the blog to make it simple to create new posts that would be consistent and attractive with minimal effort.
The homepage holds several calls to action. It also features a rotating selection of testimonials.
Classic structure
A professional services website traditionally consists of five pages:
- Home
- Services
- Blog
- About
- Contact
This is a good structure — that’s why it has become the standard. For Diane, we added a booking page for her services as a public speaker and a link to her client portal.
With full site editing and block patterns, we gave her a clean, professional look that clearly conveys what she has to offer.
We installed WooCommerce, the world’s most popular e-commerce platform, so she will be ready to sell her book once it’s published. WooCommerce offers quick and easy ways to offer a book either as a simple product to mail to customers as a physical object, as a virtual object such as a PDF file to download, or as an external product in the form of an Amazon link. This allows an author to sell books entirely through Amazon, in multiple formats, and alongside other products — with just a few clicks.
A professional services website blog
Diane already had quite a few blog posts that ranked well for important keywords, and she had traffic. She wanted a more polished look for her blog. We created a template with a featured image that would allow her to add a single picture and have it show up as the header of the post and as the image on the home page grid of posts. Visitors can click on the picture to read the post.
With search and recent posts in the sidebar and related posts automatically showing up at the bottom of each post, visitors will be encouraged to read more once they click through from the search engine results page to find the answer to their question.
Diane also has a growing collection of videos at YouTube. It’s easy to add the videos to her blog, and we included links to her YouTube channel to encourage visitors to get to know her better there.
Diane’s new website reflects her stature in the community.
